Description

The study involves two 60 minute visits to the Harvard Decision Sciences Laboratory in Cambridge, and a telephone interview between the two laboratory sessions. During the laboratory sessions, participants will be fitted with monitoring devices that record body temperature, heart rate, breathing rate and blood flow. Participants will also wear a heart rate monitor for one day at home before the second laboratory sessions. The heart rate monitor is commonly worn by athletes during exercise, and consists of an elastic band worn around the chest, and a wrist watch to record heart rate information. The band around the chest can be worn comfortably under clothing, and does not restrict movement.

Who can participate in this study?
Interested participants must be aged 50 or over, and must not be currently taking any medication for high blood pressure, or have a history of heart attack or stroke in the past 1 year.
Participants must also not be taking any medication that may affect blood pressure or heart rate, or be intolerant of cold water.
